On Sunday 30th July, Oliver Watson, Director of Watson Evans Associates entered the Prudential Ride London 100 mile cycling event. His aim was to complete the course in under six hours, whilst at the same time raising money and awareness of the fantastic, Cornish-based charity, Shelterbox.
Here’s what Oliver had to say about the event:
“It was a pretty early start (4am), involving the whole family driving me into London to get to the start line, where I met around 30,000 other riders. Quite a sight. It was an incredible experience to cycle along closed roads through London (normally very congested) and past World-famous landmarks, not to mention through countless red lights! It was humbling to participate with thousands of other riders all doing their bit to try to raise money for a variety of charities. The support from people all the way around the course was immense and really helped to keep the legs turning. Coming around the final corner off Trafalgar Square on to The Mall was deafening and an experience I will never forget!”
Oliver managed to complete the 100 mile course in 5 hours and 45 minutes, despite getting caught in a backlog of cycle traffic after a collision, and, so far, he has raised nearly £300 for Shelterbox. His page is still open to donations, so hopefully this will go up some more!
